KIHON OSAE WAZA (litterally : base, control at ground-level, techniques)
is a set of 6 basic techniques to bring the opponent to the ground and control
him by an articular lock. It is presented under the form of a kata (set
of figures of which the form and progress are codified).
This fundamental element aims at demonstrating, based on the
forms of attack, some of the underlying principles of Aikibudo. Its form
being codified, it can be performed by two students who have never met before.
It is a reference for Aikibudo students all around the world.
The student must perform in a sequence the six movements of
bringing on the ground and making an articular lock, each movement being
performed first on the right side then on the left side. All controls on
the ground shall be performed with the legs only ; the hands stay available.
Learning this kata takes about two years of practise.
